The Atonement

Here is a great article by Mark Dever on the atonement.
In case I don't get the opportunity to post before Sunday, Happy Resurrection Day!!!
"A holy heavenly life spent in the service of God, and in communion with Him, is, without doubt, the most pleasant and comfortable life any man can live in this world." - Matthew Henry
Hello to the blogging world. I hope that this page can turn into a forum that facilitates spiritual growth. By the Grace of God, I trust that we can participate in reasonable disputations and learn from our misunderstandings of eachother and varied viewpoints. I hope that this blog will be a safe-haven for the pursuit of truth in a world that often denies the existence of certitude.

Hey Friend!

Are classes coming along ok? Jon is teaching christian heritage here at Vanguard- you should see if you can audit it. I think the theme is church history...

No offense, but that article by Devar was one of the most philosophically and theologically obtuse accounts of the atonement that I have ever read (and I have read alot, from all theological perspectives). He clearly lacks the theological acumen to seriously engage the topic, and operates almost exclusively on the level of aesthetic reaction to more serious studies that have been undertaken.
I thought it was humorous that in critiquing Green and Baker's critique of the "trainman" analogy, his only problem with the analogy is that the Holy Spirit is absent! There are much more serious consequences to this analogy than the lack of the Holy Spirit, some of which I have discussed on my blog recently. Ironically enough, in spite of this caveat about the analogy, the rest of his article is, not surprisingly, devoid of the role of the Holy Spirit in atonement.
